December 26th 2004. The full moon in colour

The image below is of the full moon. It is a composite of some 25 stacked AVI's taken over a period of 15 minutes between 22:00UT and 22:15UT on the 26th of December 2004. The individual images were compiled using the excellent software, iMerge. The image is in monochrome.

Below is the same image as above. However this time each of the individual sections had their colour saturated and the hue changed, in order to emphasise what would otherwise be the very subtle colours of the lunar surface. Bringing out the colours also makes some feature obvious that are very poorly defined in black and white, much more obvious.
The colours do bear some interpretation.
Blue: The blue areas represent lava flow that are rich in titanium and possibly iron.
Green: The green areas represent lava flows (basalts) that are less rich in metals.
Pale Tan / Pink: These areas represent the lunar highlands.
Brighter Pink: These represent the fresher areas, the results of impacts, such as craters or rays of material thrown away from the impact site.
