Comet Hale Bopp

This is my first ever picture of a comet. Not a webcam image (they cost a fortune then, they weren't so good and I didn't have one) but a scan of a photo. I just plonked the camera on a tripod, pointed it in the right direction and left the shutter open for a while. I have no idea of any of the details other than it's looking north, however it gives an idea of just how fantastic and bright this comet was.

Hadn't a clue what I was doing but it came out well.

You can see the dust tail amd the blueish ion tail against the light polluted sky. Yuck, I hate street lights !
